Description
The new Festhalle Bern offers an impressive indoor total area of 9,400 m². The multifunctional hall spans 4,300 m² and also includes eight additional areas, including an event hall for up to 1,200 people.
Challenges
The Festhalle, with wall heights of up to 18.25 m, was constructed in two phases. The lower 13 m were poured in one stage, while the upper 5.25 m were realized using climbing formwork. Given that construction took place during the winter months, special care was required for both the concrete and the formwork.
Solution and results
Thanks to concrete pressure monitoring, the pouring process for the 13 m high walls was optimized. The delivery and placement of the concrete were precisely coordinated with the concrete pressure, allowing for a swift and secure construction of the high walls. To minimize the stripping time during the cold winter months, temperature monitoring was also employed during certain pouring stages. This led to a significant reduction in the stripping period in close collaboration with the engineer.
